The B.S. in Marine Science is well aligned with recommendations released in July 2010 by the national Ocean Policy Task Force for a broad, interdisciplinary approach to marine resource management. The real-world problems facing the world’s marine and coastal resources have led both NOAA (http://www.msp.noaa.gov/) and UNESCO (http://www.unesco-ioc-marinesp.be/) to launch major initiatives in marine and coastal spatial planning. The B.S. in Marine Science will prepare graduates to contribute to managing and conserving marine resources. Students interested in purely biological aspects of marine science are encouraged to consider majoring in Biology (General Biology concentration), focusing on marine biology electives within the Biology major.

No formal concentrations are offered, although students are encouraged to consult with a faculty advisor to select the suite of advanced courses that best prepares them for employment or graduate school in their chosen area of marine science specialization.
