The Communication and Design (CD) major is an integrated degree program that provides a broad-based understanding of current information technology and media design.

Students can choose to combine their studies in the areas of web design, visual design, programming and scripting, and information systems to develop professional and academic skills that meet their career goals. Communication Design courses help the student combine technical knowledge with design, communication, problem-solving and management skills to meet those goals. Our graduates are uniquely qualified for collaborative media projects and creative problem solving in a variety of work environments, from small design firms to global high-tech corporations.

The School of Information Technology and Communication Design differs from other university programs by offering a bachelor of science degree that uniquely combines advanced information technology, creative problem-solving and communication design. The project-oriented and outcomes-based method of learning has been recognized for its innovative and integrated application of technology, creativity, design and management in student learning.

Throughout their course of study, CD majors follow an Individual Learning Plan (ILP), culminating with a portfolio that demonstrates successful achievement of that ILP. Portfolios feature high levels of competence in communication, collaboration, technical expertise, ethical reflection, global perspective and creative problem solving skills. Faculty members conduct cutting-edge applied research and development in these fields, providing our students with hands-on, real-world media design experience while earning their Communication Design degee.
