Prerequisites for Admission

1. CSUMB application on file in CSUMB Office of Admissions with official sets of all transcripts

2. Multiple Subject Teacher Credential Program Application on file in Credentials Office with official sets of transcripts. The program application can be downloaded here.  

3. Two or three letters of recommendation from persons who have seen you teaching or working with culturally diverse children. Letters should be mailed directly to:

4. Basic Skills Requirement (BSR). This may be documented in various ways; the most common methods are by passing the CBEST, or by passing the Writing Skills portion of the CSET in addition to the three subject-matter subtests (attach copy of original test results; original will be requested at a later date), or by providing a copy of an Emergency Teaching Permit. 
For CBEST registration deadlines and procedures, visit the cbest.nesinc.com website.  By law, you do not have to have passed the BSR in order to be admitted, but you do have to have attempted it (either the CBEST or the Writing Skills portion of the CSET).  You must have passed the BSR in order to move on to Stage II in the program.

5. Subject Matter Requirement. For Multiple Subjects, there is only one way to satisfy this requirement: pass all 3 subtestsof the CSET (attach copy of original test results; original will be requested at a later date). 6. Coursework or life experience providing knowledge of people with cultural or linguistic background different from the applicant's (see FAQ's sheet)

7. Fulfilled foreign language requirement. One semester of college-level  foreign language, passed with a C or better.  This may be documented by a high school transcript, if you took and passed with a C or better two full semesters of a foreign language in high school. 

8. Required for admission to the Internship pathway, highly desired for others: Fulfilled U.S. Constitution requirement
