The Visual & Public Art minor builds skills in painting, sculpture and photography. Using studio and community art approaches, students will address critical issues of social and cultural significance. Through the creation of individual and collaborative work, students engage in a process of ethical inquiry, self-reflection and reciprocal community service. The program builds skills in ethical judgment, social perspective and cross-cultural empathy.
Integration with Majors
The Visual & Public Art minor augments any field of study in which a documented background in visual art is desirable. The Visual & Public Art minor serves those students with a background and interest in the visual arts and students with a strong desire to increase their knowledge and skills in art. Having a strong background in visual art is particularly relevant for students seeking employment in the arts and for students planning to pursue an elementary teaching credential or a graduate degree in education.
