Accounting

This area of accounting is designed to prepare students to sit for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination and to pursue a career in accounting.

In addition to the standard upper-division required core courses, required of all BUS majors, students pursuing an accounting concentration are required to take the below-mentioned courses.

Summary of Accounting concentration:

BUS required core courses: 32 units

Five accounting electives: 20 units

Total upper division major units: 52 units

** Accounting students are encouraged to work in accounting firms, banks or accounting departments within firms as they complete their final year.

Agribusiness

Summary of Agribusiness concentration:

BUS required core courses: 32 units

Four Agribusiness electives: 16 units

Total upper division major units: 48 units

Required Courses

  • The following two electives are required of every student in the Agribusiness concentration:
  • BUS 435: Supply Chain Mgmt: Agribus (4 units)
  • BUS 434: Policy/Reg in Env Agribus (4 units)
  • Students pursuing this concentration must take two of the following electives. He/she may substitute one elective with the prior written approval of the concentration adviser:
  • BUS 322: Integrated Mktg Com (4 units)
  • BUS 330: Human Resources Management (4 units)
  • CHEM 109: Introductory Chemistry (3 to 4 units)
  • ENVS 201: Intro to Environmental Science (4 units)
  • BUS 434: Policy/Reg in Env Agribus (4 units)
  • BUS 435: Supply Chain Mgmt: Agribus (4 units)
  • *Agribusiness students are required to have a foundation in Plant and Soil Science. Substitutions for these courses will only be approved if they relate to Plant and/or Soil Science and if they also meet General Education B area requirements.

Entrepreneurship/Intrapreneurship

Entrepreneurs develop new, better ways of meeting consumer needs. They do so through new ventures or through new business models within existing businesses.

The Entrepreneurship/Intrapreneurship concentration prepares students to envision, develop and manage a sustainable new enterprise. For entrepreneurs and corporate “intrapreneurs,” we focus on developing a climate that fosters innovation and continuous improvement.  Required skills cut across all business disciplines.

Four concentration electives: 16 units

Total upper division major units: 48 units

  • BUS 451: Venture Formation/Finance (4 units)
  • AND
  • Students must take any two additional BUS electives (8 units).

Hospitality Management

Using a targeted approach to hospitality management, the Hotel/Resort Management & Hospitality concentrations prepare students to be successful managers within a hotel/resort setting.

Summary of Hospitality Management concentration:

BUS required core courses: 32 units

Hospitality Management Required Electives: 15 - 20 units

Total upper division major units: 47 - 52 units

Information Technology/e-Commerce

The Information Technology/e-Commerce concentration prepares students to analyze and address the information and electronic commerce needs of an enterprise. Students design and build efficient and effective information systems solutions integrating them with other business functions.

Summary of IT/EC concentration:

Required core BUS courses: 32 units

Four IT/EC concentration courses: 16 units
Total upper division BUS major units: 48 units

  • BUS 469: Database Management (4 units)

Management & International Business

The Management and International Business concentration grooms students to be productive managers who are well versed in different cultures and comfortable operating across national boundaries. 

Summary MIB concentration:

Four MIB courses: 16 units
Total upper division major units: 48 units

Marketing

Business graduates with a focus on marketing often work in sales, advertising & public relations, marketing research, distribution, brand and product management, and customer service in both for-profit and non-profit sectors. Marketing graduates were among the top 10 most desired employees in 2004, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers.
