Our campus location is a tremendous asset. In addition to being one of the most beautiful coastal areas in the world, Monterey lies only an hour from Silicon Valley, the greatest concentration of global hardware and software producers, and two hours from San Francisco, home to scores of creative designers and content developers. Our school has established working relationships with a number of trendsetting companies such as IBM, Microsoft, Macromedia, Apple and Cisco Systems. These companies provide us with the latest in hardware and software and advise us as our dynamic program evolves. We also maintain close collaboration with major local government agencies such as NASA and the Defense ManpowerData Center (DoD). They provide ample internship and employment opportunities for our students.
CSUMB is a relatively small campus, with approximately 4,000 students. Most of our classes are small, and students receive the benefit of individualized personal attention as they work on hands-on projects. In contrast to most other California State University campuses, CSUMB is residential. Like most of our students, many faculty and staff members also live either on campus or in nearby neighborhoods, making them accessible to students outside of class time.
The Media Learning Center that houses our program is open late evenings and on weekends. In addition to general-purpose laboratories, our program maintains special purpose labs for networking, digital media production, animation and software development. All labs are equipped with networked personal computers, printers and associated peripherals. The CSUMB library is also open late evenings and on weekends and provides both workspace and computer facilities.
A state-of-the-art converged gigabit Ethernet network supports the integration of data, voice and video services for students both on campus and off campus. Wireless access to this network exists across the main CSUMB campus. The network infrastructures support live and on-demand access to streaming video, allowing support for interactive television, video and audio conferencing, whiteboards and more.
