On-campus housing is a vital part of the educational experience at California State University, Monterey Bay. First-year and sophomore students are required to live in on-campus housing, however, many Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students choose to live on-campus. We offer several types of on-campus residential communities: traditional residence halls, suites, and apartments, as well as graduate student and family housing units. The selection of housing options reflects the diversity of our student population and all of our residential communities are convenient to Main Campus where classroom buildings, the Tanimura & Antle Memorial Library, dining facilities, and Athletics complexes are located.
The housing application process is separate from the process by which students apply to CSUMB - University admission does not guarantee on-campus housing. Once you have been accepted to California State University, Monterey Bay, and paid your $100 admissions confirmation deposit (declaring your intent to attend CSUMB), you will gain access to the housing application process through a website link that will be emailed to you. Once you receive this link, you will be able to pay your $250 Security Deposit and then apply for on-campus housing.
In order to qualify to live on campus, you must be a matriculated student working toward a degree at California State University, Monterey Bay. Every semester a resident lives in on-campus housing, they must be fully enrolled in a minimum of 12 undergraduate units or 8 graduate units to remain eligible for on-campus housing, as well as our housing "rate lock."
Meal plans are required for residents living in Main Campus student housing, with the exception of the North Quad Strawberry Apartments. Meal plans are optional, but encouraged for residents living in Strawberry Apartments, as well as in East Campus housing. To learn more about meal plans, please visit the Dining Services webpage at http://csumb.org/dining.
Housing and meal plan fees are due before you move into your on-campus housing Fall semester, and prior to the start of classes Spring semester. The exception to this policy is for students who receive financial aid, who are eligible to have their fees deferred until the add/drop date of the University each semester (date available on the CSUMB academic calender.)
