Outcomes, Courses, and Assessment
If interested in this major, you should first consult with the ISSM Director to discuss your career and learning objectives. If it is agreed CSUMB has the academic resources you need, the director will approve your enrollment in ISSM 300: Major ProSeminar Major ProSeminar. In this course, you will learn the basic foundations of Integrated Studies and engage in a collaborative interactive process to develop your official Individual Learning Plan. This ILP must include at least 10 Major Learning Outcomes, two from the ISSM Program and the rest coming from two or more other majors that you are combining. Your ILP serves as an individualized, interdisciplinary concentration that maps out how you will achieve each of your MLOs by successfully completing courses or alternative assessment options.
You learn to combine academic units in the required ISSM 395: Special Topics course which teaches the theory and practice of the field of integrated studies. You also work on topics in integrated studies, including texts from the sciences, arts, social sciences, and humanities. ISSM 395: Special Topics serves as a home room laboratory for the Integrated Studies Special Major, where you receive structured support for the preparation of a Senior Capstone project and completion of your Individual Learning Plan. You take ISSM 395: Special Topics every term until Capstone, and conclude the major by completing that Capstone, a publicly presented project that displays your cumulative learning in the major.
