Total credits: 126 - 130, depending upon concentration
Minimum credits at CSUMB: 30
Total credits required for the major: 73
Upper-division credits in the major: 56
Please declare your Business major as soon as you decide because you should start your Business classes in your Freshman year if possible.
Total credits of 126-130 can only be met with careful course selection of General Education and University Learning Requirements to maximize double-counts to meet graduation requirements.
We highly recommend meeting with an advisor in the Business Program (business@csumb.edu) prior to registration in your first semester at CSUMB. We are happy to advise you prior to ANY college work, even at a community college, to make sure your graduation plan is as efficient as possible.
You officially begin the major by enrolling in BUS 300: Major ProSeminar where you create or revise your Individual Learning Plan (ILP). That ILP maps out how you will achieve each of the Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) designated below by successfully completing the listed courses. You conclude the major by completing 4 units of Capstone coursework such as the Capstone section of BUS 495: Special Topics: Bus Admin taken for 2 units two semesters in a row.
When planning your General Education Requirements, please note the following requirements for Business Majors:
- General Education requires one lower division Math class but Business requires that you complete
- General Education requires English Communication A & B in the lower division.
- If you take one of your required Economics courses from a Community College or Junior College where that course has been approved to meet General Education Area D, when that course transfers to CSUMB, it will meet the University Learning Requirement for Community Participation
University Learning Requirements require you meet an Information Technology requirement. If you are a Business Major, you should take BUS 200: Intro to Business Computing to meet this requirement. If you take CST 101: Technology Tools, you will need to take BUS 299: Excel Spreadsheet in addition to meet the required Excel knowledge level which is a pre-requisite for Business upper division classes. If you take your computer course at another school, you should check assist.org for articulation or speak with a Business Program Advisor by emailing business@csumb.edu.
In addition to the remainder of the General Education and University Learning Requirements, the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration requires the following courses as pre-requisites to the Upper Division Core classes:
- BUS 201: Macro Economics and BUS 202: Micro Economics. If you take one of your Economics courses at a community college and that course is approved as a Section D class, you are not required to take Community Participation at CSUMB
- BUS 203: Financial Accounting and BUS 205: Managerial Accounting
- BUS 206: Business Law
CONCENTRATIONS:
Choosing a concentration is NOT required. Many students choose to have no concentration so that they can choose their electives from the entire range of elective courses we offer rather than being held to a short list. Your concentration is not listed on your diploma, only on your transcript.
