The Journalism and Media Studies Minor allows you to explore your interests in journalism and media while tailoring your minor curriculum so it can be integrated with many major programs at CSUMB. The minor brings together media theory and journalism skills courses with opportunities for practical application. You will acquire the critical, analytical, writing, and research skills to create journalistic products and analyze the mass media.

The Journalism and Media Studies Minor provides a way for students interested in media and other fields to combine these interests to create a practical educational experience. For example, you will benefit from the program if you are:

• A Teledramatic Arts and Technology major who wants to work in the field of broadcast news
• An Earth Systems Science & Policy major interested in writing about science
• A Global Studies major interested in global media or international reporting
• A Telecommunications, Multimedia, and Applied Computing major interested in writing about technology or combining design and editorial skills in your career
• A Visual and Public Art major who would like to go into the field of publication design
• A World Languages and Cultures major interested in writing about or for a bilingual or multicultural community
• A Music and Performing Arts major who wants to become a music or theater critic
