First Year Seminar provides a common experience to entering students,
introducing them to the
CSUMB Vision, introducing them to
the campus and area communities, engaging them in the unique approaches
and challenges of CSUMB Academic Life, and supporting their exploration
of their past, present, and future as they transition to college,
explore the majors, and develop and pursue their future goals.
First Year Seminar promotes not only persistence in college, but college
success.

First Year Seminar has four learning outcomes to give you a solid
foundation for your university learning:
-
CSUMB Vision, Values, Goals. Students relate the
CSUMB Vision Statement, Core Values, and Academic Goals to their own
educational and personal goals.
-
Academic and Career Planning. Students create an
academic plan that incorporates exploration of major and career, and
student development pathways.
-
Teamwork. Students demonstrate teamwork through
constructive participation in team tasks and effective interactions
with team members of diverse identities and perspectives.
-
Information Literacy. Students choose a topic
appropriate to the assignment, identify search terms relevant to the
topic, effectively search for and identify sources using the library
books and articles search tool and evaluate the relevance of search
results. Students create an academic plan that incorporates
exploration of major and career, and student development pathways.
