Description
This survey course is designed to provide an overview of American popular music from 1900 to the present. The course focuses on a broad spectrum of popular music, including sacred and secular genres i.e. jazz, pop, gospel, rock, soul, folk, fun, Latin, classical, show tunes and Native American chants. Through lectures, listening sessions, and film screenings, course content emphasizes the social, economic, cultural, technological, political, and aesthetic development of American popular music.
