- B.S. or B.A. completed at an accredited university or college
- Application to CSUMB and the Special Education Program
- Subject-matter competency
If you do not hold a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential, you must demonstrate subject-matter competency in General Education by passing the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET). If you have completed coursework in a university-approved teacher education waiver program, you are exempt from taking the CSET. Once accepted into the Mild/Moderate Level I Credential Program, you demonstrate subject-matter competency by completing courses from the Multiple Subject or Single Subject Programs. - Interview with program coordinator and faculty
- Pre-professional experience in instruction settings with children with special needs
- A course in U.S. Government that includes U.S. Constitution
- Proof of having taken or passed the California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST)
- Certificate of Clearance
- Three letters of recommendation
- Computer literacy
- Two official sets of transcripts from every university or college that you have attended (one set mailed to CSUMB Admissions & Records and the other to the CSUMB Special Education Program office)
- Resume and statement of purpose essay
