The International Health Policy Minor is a cross-disciplinary program between the Collaborative Health and Human Services and the Global Studies Departments. To complete the Minor, you must fulfill Learning Outcomes from both programs, listed below, by successfully completing courses or alternative assessment options.
You may add the IHP Minor to your course of study at any time during your undergraduate studies at CSUMB. However, we recommend contacting one of the program faculty as early as possible, so that you can integrate the Minor requirements into your Individual Learning Plan (ILP). CHHS MLO 3 Cross Cultural Competency – CC ~ Demonstrate an understanding of the differences between self and others and be comfortable engaging in a process of relationship building characterized by mutual respect and sensitivity; assess the needs and capabilities of culturally diverse populations, and communicate effectively across cultural groups
CHHS MLO 6 Knowledge of Health and Human Services – KHHS ~ Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental principles and issues common to the major fields of health and human services including community health, social welfare, and public policy, and demonstrate competence in the selected areas of concentration
CHHS MLO 10 Public Policy Analysis – PP ~ Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze public policy issues and begin to master the skills necessary to identify and define public problems, analyze existing policies, develop alternatives to current policy, and recommend alternatives
GS MLO 4 Understanding of global issues and the Third World ~ Students will be able to comprehend, analyze, and evaluate important global issues that have a particularly adverse affect on the ‘poorer,’ so-called Third World countries. They will also be able to comprehend, analyze, and evaluate the role played in the Third World or ‘South’ by the more powerful states and corporations of the First World ‘North.’

They will be able to comprehend and reflect critically upon their own world view and be able to empathize with people who hold world views that are different from their own.

The IHP Minor curriculum includes a 120-hour field placement and courses in Collaborative Health & Human Services (CHHS) and Global Studies (GS).
You will complete approximately 120 hours of fieldwork during the IHP Minor. CHHS and GS Advisors will approve agencies based on
Stipends and travel expenses, especially outside the U.S., are encouraged. The CHHS Field Practice Program policies and documentation may be used, as appropriate, for assisting students and field mentors in organizing and assessing students learning opportunities and accomplishments in the field. Depending on your CSUMB Major, you must follow a specific pathway to complete IHP Minor course requirements. You may achieve each of the Learning Outcomes in your pathway by successfully completing the listed courses, or by passing alternative assessment options determined with your advisor:
