The Master of Science in Instructional Science and Technology (MIST) is a 16-month interdisciplinary program that integrates information technology, learning sciences, instructional design and performance technology. The cohort-based program incorporates substantial online learning to help full-time employed students master topics such as learning theory, instructional design, instructional technology, interactive media, assessment and evaluation. The program prepares graduates for leadership positions in e-learning, training, instructional media development and technology-based delivery of education for today's global marketplace.
The MIST program is offered by the School of Information Technology and Communication Design. The School of ITCD distinguishes itself from other educational programs by its unique combination of technology and design. The project-based and outcomes-based model of learning has been recognized for its innovative and integrative application of technology, design and management in student learning. Throughout the course of study, each student creates an individual learning plan gradually building a portfolio that demonstrates successful achievement of that plan. Portfolios feature high levels of competence in communication, collaboration, technical expertise, ethical reflection, global perspective and problem solving skills. The school conducts leading-edge applied research and development that provides students with hands-on, real-world experience while earning their degrees. ITCD programs attract students from diverse backgrounds including traditional post-graduate students, working professionals, distance learners and corporate-sponsored professionals.

Online Components
The MIST Blended track is completed through courses primarily online with five on-campus seminars during the 16-months study period. During these seminars, students meet face-to-face with their faculty and peers on the CSUMB campus near beautiful Monterey, California. Therefore, students can continue their jobs while participating fully in the program.
The MIST Fully Online track is completed fully online. Students are not required to come on campus throughout the 16-months study.
