Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Kathryn Cruz-Uribe came to CSUMB from Northern Arizona University, where she was dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. A broad range of administrative positions has prepared her to be a provost. At Northern Arizona, she was director of an interdisciplinary graduate program, interim associate provost for research and graduate studies and graduate dean. And she has many years of teaching experience, at Northern Arizona and at the University of Rhode Island. She holds a bachelor's degree from Middlebury College and a master's and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, all in anthropology.

In the position of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Cruz-Uribe leads all aspects of the academic program. She is also second-in-command of the university, and works with the other members of the university's cabinet and the president to improve universitywide effectiveness and success.

As an anthropologist with many years of fieldwork outside of the United States, Dr. Cruz-Uribe says she appreciates CSUMB's emphasis on global perspectives, diversity, and multiculturalism. And, "I'm particularly intrigued by the nontraditional, cross-disciplinary majors, as well as the emphasis on student learning through internships and field study as well as coursework."
