Vice President for University Advancement

Michael W. Mahan joined CSU Monterey Bay in November 2007, as the Executive Director of Development. In that capacity, he was responsible for fundraising efforts and alumni relations. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy and holds a master's degree in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mike retired from the United States Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.  He spent eight years as a professor of chemistry at the Academy and then continued to serve as a staff member there for 16 years, the last 12 as Vice President of Development - the chief fundraising executive. During his tenure at West Point, he led a team that raised over $350 million.

Mahan assumed the position of Vice President for University Advancement on May 1, 2009.  In this position, he will oversee fundraising, strategic communications, alumni relations, special events, KAZU radio, and community and media relations.

As Vice President for University Advancement, Mahan sits on the University's Senior Leadership Team and the President's Cabinet.
