Outcomes, Courses, and Assessment

You officially begin the major by enrolling in LL 300 Major Proseminar where you work with your Liberal Learning advising specialist to create or revise your Individual Learning Plan.  The ILP maps out how you will achieve each of the Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) designated below by successfully completing the listed courses or alternative assessment options. You conclude the major by completing your Capstone, which displays your cumulative learning in the major.

Domain Area C: Liberal Learning Across the Disciplines

LL MLO C1 English Communication, Foundational

LL MLO C4 Advanced Technology

  • Complete one of the following: CST 303, SBSC 318 (Other upper-division Advanced Technology courses are acceptable.)

LL MLO C5 Social Science

LL MLO C6 Quantitative Literacy

LL MLO C7 Natural Sciences

  • Complete the requirements of the Science ULR  including one Methods course and one Content course

LL MLO C8 Visual and Performing Arts

  • Complete one Art course at the lower-division level or choose from the following: MPA 233, VPA 308, other approved VPA courses
  • Complete one Drama course at the lower-division level or choose from the following: TAT 330, other approved TAT courses
  • Complete one Dance course at the lower-division level or choose from the following: MPA 233, other approved MPA courses
  • Complete one Music course at the lower-division level or choose from the following: MPA 233, other approved MPA courses

  • Complete 16 upper-division credits of LL core courses

  • Complete 12 upper-division credits following an approved minor or concentration (Refer to specific department’s recommendations for concentrations or minors. May not be courses that were completed in the core LS MLOs. Grade in each course must be C or better. A grade of credit is not acceptable. See Liberal Studies Advising webpage for approved minors and concentrations.)
Domain Area D: Ethical Reflection and Social Responsibility

LL MLO D1 Field-based Service Learning

  • Complete HCOM 317S, HCOM 339S, or another upper-division service learning course (Must complete a minimum of 50 service hours.)
Domain Area E: Synthesis and Assessment in the Major

LL MLO E1 LL 400 Senior Capstone

  • Complete LL 400 (Maximum courseload in addition to LL 400 is 12 credits.)
