WLC is pleased to offer the Japanese Language and Culture Minor in response to many student requests. It will allow students from other fields of study who have a personal or career interest in Japan, but who have already completed their Japanese language requirement and want to go beyond the minimum, to access our rich Japanese studies program in preparation for Japan-related professional opportunities.
-Yoshiko Saito-Abbot, Ph.D., Japanese Program Coordinator, School of World Languages and Cultures
When I started Japanese as a language here at CSUMB, I had no idea of the depth of Japanese culture and the connection between the two. Japanese culture is so unique and has such a beautiful, rich history that is reflected in the language. I've fallen in love with Japanese culture and history, and the Japanese program here at CSUMB provides an opportunity to study with plenty of personal attention. If you are interested in Japanese language or culture, the program here gives you every opportunity to learn.

I chose Japanese Language and Culture as my minor to complement my major in Visual and Public Art. I have always been interested in Japan and its culture. I hope to gain a greater understanding of Japanese life and develop more cultural sensitivity. I would like to be able to incorporate what I learn into my art.
