Provost Bonnie Irwin comes to CSU Monterey Bay from Eastern Illinois University (EIU), where she served as Dean of Arts and Humanities, as well as Dean of the Honors College, where she was a full professor of English.
A former resident of California, Dr. Irwin received her BA, MA, and PhD degrees in Comparative Literature (Spanish, Arabic, and Portuguese) from the University of California, Berkeley, after attending Los Gatos High School. She has taught a variety of classes in world literature, and her primary research areas are the Arabian Nights, medieval storytelling, and higher education. In her administrative work, Dr. Irwin has facilitated initiatives in integrative learning, undergraduate research, interdisciplinary studies and inclusive excellence. She is a former president of the National Collegiate Honors Council and currently serves on the board of the American Conference of Academic Deans.
