High School
Recommended

Because CSUMB has a second-language requirement, you should engage in as many years of study in your target language as possible. If you have advanced or heritage language skills, we encourage you to enroll in your school's Advanced Placement (AP) program and to take the AP test. Successful completion of this test with a score of 4-5 will earn you university credit, fulfill the CSUMB Language ULR, and place you into advanced-level language courses upon arriving at CSUMB.

Community College
Recommended

Four semesters of a target language, and any content courses that engage in the study of subject matter relative to the culture(s) and societies reflected by your target language.

CSUMB Lower-Division
Required

Complete all lower-division University Learning Requirements, including 101, 102, 201, and 202 (or the equivalent) of your target language
