Special Education Credentials ~ Degree Requirements
Semester Credits Required Mild/Moderate Level I Total Credits: 34 Mild/Moderate Level II Total Credits: 18 Moderate/Severe Level I Total Credits: 35 Moderate/Severe Level I—Interns Total Credits: 38 Outcomes, Courses, and Assessment The program is structured around the working classroom teacher. We offer courses in the evenings, on weekends, during winter session, and throughout the summer. Usually students take two courses per semester. We also require you to complete a practicum. Mild/Moderate Level I The Mild/Moderate Level I and Moderate/Severe Education Specialist Credential programs accent preferred instructional practices to help students with disabilities succeed in school and life. While pursuing your credential, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to satisfy the following California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) by successfully completing the listed courses or alternative assessment options. Mild/Moderate Level II - Complete all of the following: SPED 680 Induction Plan/Professional Growth and Assessment (Beginning); SPED 681 ; SPED 681 Advanced Behavioral, Emotional & Environmental Supports for Students with Challenges; SPED 682 Advanced Assessment & Curriculum Instruction for Students with Challenges; SPED 683 Advanced Collaboration & Consultation; SPED 685 Transition & Career Development for the Education Specialist; SPED 689 Induction Plan/Professional Growth for the Education Specialist (Capstone)
- Complete an Induction Plan with a Special Education faculty member and district support provider.
In consultation with the employer's representative, you may complete up to 25 percent of the Level II program in non-university activities.
