The Master of Arts in Education prepares strong education professionals to have an informed understanding of complex learning; the knowledge and skills to promote such learning; and the disposition to advocate effectively for the learning, living and growth of students, especially those who bring cultural, linguistic and other diversity to schools. The program coursework challenges educators to analyze and improve their instructional practice to better serve students with diverse ethnic and linguistic backgrounds, as well as students with special needs.

In order to complete the requirements of the Curriculum & Instruction emphasis, students must complete an additional twelve (12) units of 500- and/or 600-level ED, SPED, or MAE courses.
The Special Education emphasis prepares strong professionals who have an informed understanding of what constitutes true learning as well as the knowledge and skills to promote it, and the disposition to work actively toward change when policies or practices negatively impact the learning, living and growth of students with special needs.

In order to complete the requirements of the Special Education emphasis, students must complete two (2) elective courses for at least six (6) units from the Preliminary SPED Credential Program or the MAE Curriculum & Instruction Emphases.
The Teacher Education emphasis combines initial studies in teaching and learning with graduate level scholarship for prospective teachers who seek a teacher credential and a Master of Arts in Education degree.

Students must select either the Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential and complete the associated coursework.
The School Psychology emphasis prepares candidates to become School Psychologists in K-12 schools.

An additional Field Experience/Internship experience is required upon completion of the Masters Program and passage of the NCSP exam in order to be eligible for the School Psychology Credential.

Analyze and apply advanced learning theory in education. Evaluate and apply critical research to effectively implement evidence-based practices.
Analyze current research to strengthen cross-cultural communication and ensure social justice for diverse populations in our schools and communities.
Evaluate and apply critical research on pedagogical, assessment, and curricular approaches to effectively implement evidence-based practices.
Analyze, evaluate, and apply current research on leadership models, concepts, and theory in educational organizations to lead effectively.
Evaluate ethical practices for the field and professional guidelines in education.
Evaluate academic situations and demonstrate critical thinking, written and oral communication, and information literacy according to the conventions of their academic discipline.
