Admissions ~ Graduate-Postbaccalaureate English Language Proficiency Requirements

All graduate and postbaccalaureate applicants, regardless of citizenship, whose native language is not English and whose preparatory education was principally in a language other than English must demonstrate competence in English. If you do not possess a bachelor's degree from a postsecondary institution where English is the principal language of instruction:

You must receive a minimum score of 525 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Some programs require a higher score. Applicants taking the Computer-Based Test of English as a Foreign Language must present a score of 197 or above. www.toefl.org

OR

You must receive a minimum score of 6 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. www.ielts.org

Some programs may require a higher score. Some CSU campuses may use alternative methods for assessing fluency in English.

You must submit official test score to Admissions & Recruitment, 100 Campus Center, Seaside, CA 93955-8001.
