At CSUMB we were lucky enough to have a lot of one-on-one teaching experiences. With the smaller class sizes, you are also able to find study groups easily. The small class brings the students together; they are more willing to work together. Also, the professors have a great understanding of the material that they are teaching. Sometimes they go above and beyond the text to help you understand the concepts being taught. My overall experience in the math department was nothing less than excellent.

As a returning student, small class sizes and the ability to interact with instructors put CSUMB on my checklist. Professor Hu's command of mathematics and infectious enthusiasm for the subject also drew me to CSUMB. He amply demonstrated his commitment to student success by establishing independent study courses for winter and summer semesters that enabled students to meet their graduation date goals. Professor Hu also provided valuable insight and encouragement as I completed my research Capstone-my first such research in a pure mathematics context, and it left me with a taste for doing more!
