Outcomes, Courses, and Assessment

You must achieve each of the Mathematics Minor Learning Outcomes designated below by successfully completing the listed courses or alternative assessment options.

LO 1 Calculus Foundations ~ Students apply principles and methods of differential and integral calculus to both theoretical and applied problems

Pathway: To demonstrate competency, students must receive a grade of C or higher in the following:

LO 2 Breadth of Application ~ Students demonstrate the ability to apply advanced mathematical principles and constructs to solve problems in several areas.

LO 3 Mathematical Reasoning ~ Students judge the validity of arguments, formulate and test conjectures, and analyze and construct concise mathematical proofs

LO 4 Mathematical Problem Solving ~ Students apply advanced mathematical problem-solving strategies to applied problems. This includes the ability to apply mathematical concepts and models, to select appropriate strategies, and to carry out solutions

LO 5 Mathematical Communication ~ Students express complex mathematical ideas orally and in writing using appropriate mathematical symbols and terminology

To demonstrate competency, students must receive a grade of C or higher in all courses in one of the following pathways:

Pathway A

MATH 170 or MATH 250 and any two additional mathematics courses numbered 310 or above (must be approved by a mathematics faculty advisor)


Pathway B
Any three mathematics courses numbered 310 or above (must be approved by a mathematics faculty advisor)
