Telecommunications, Multimedia, and Applied Computing B.S.~ Recommended Preparation

To be well prepared for entry into the Telecommunications, Multimedia, and Applied Computing B.S. degree program and to graduate in four years (for new freshman) or two years (for transfer students), the following coursework should be taken prior to entering CSUMB:

High School Recommended Preparation

Complete as many math and computing courses as available at your school, including pre-calculus, and at least two years of a foreign language. 

Community College Recommended Preparation

Complete lower-division general education requirements in the following areas:

  • Area A: Written and Oral Communication,  A1 and A2  (6 units)
    (You will complete A3 Critical Thinking as part of upper-division TMAC courses)
  • Area B: Science and Math
    Science courses to fulfill B1, B2, and B3: (6-7 units)
    Math B4: Complete Pre-calculus (CAN MATH 16)  (3 to 5 units)
  • Area C: Humanities and Fine Arts (9 units) 
    At least 3 units must be in the fine arts.  It is recommended that you take two semesters of a foreign language for the humanities requirement  
  • Area D: Social Sciences (3 different disciplines), including U.S. History, Constitution and American Ideals, and California state and local government, 9  units
  • Area E: Vibrancy: 1 course in personal development theory and 1 activity course, 4 units

In addition to the GE requirements, transfer students should complete the third semester of a foreign language before transferring to fulfill CSUMB's language requirement. Two semesters may count towards C-area GE requirements.
