Outcomes, Courses, and Assessment

You may declare ESSP as your major at any time in your CSUMB career, although we recommend that you declare as soon as possible so that you can begin lower-division prerequisite courses.

The ESSP Major Learning Outcomes describe the knowledge, skills, and abilities in science, technology, economics, and policy that you must obtain before you graduate as an ESSP major. Though the MLOs remain essentially the same regardless of the concentration or emphasis that you choose from the list below, the courses that you must complete to display achievement of the MLOs will vary.

Although we offer external assessment options, the applied, integrative nature of the ESSP major necessitates a course-based path for the majority of students. The breadth of competency required necessitates expertise in more than one discipline, and the need for depth often mandates a sequence of several related courses. To demonstrate the required competency, you must earn a grade of C or higher in each required course.

Note that many of the courses listed have required lab components.
